Zooplankton Sampler (ZPS)

McLane Zooplankton Samplers are designed to collect zooplankton, in-situ, in support of oceanographic research projects and environmental monitoring programs. The ZPS 7-50 sample volume is carefully designed to avoid triggering zooplankton escape responses related to velocity or light gradients. Ambient water is drawn from the sample volume through mesh windows in a sample belt. Zoooplankton are held on the mesh by the flow until trapped in the sample window well by a covering mesh. Samples, undamaged by the collection procedure, are preserved in a fixative reservoir. The ZPS can collect up to 50 samples in a single autonomous deployment specified by a user-defined sampling schedule.

The firmware provided with the Zooplankton Sampler makes it easy to use, yet flexible and robust in support of your scientific goals. The operator has control over sampling schedules, start times, sample volumes, flow rates, and time limits. The ZPS benefits from the advanced control algorithms developed for McLane WTS-LV pumps. McLane is always available to assist and provide operational advice. Our instrument manuals include photos and complete maintenance information.

Special Features

ZPS hardware and software can be customized to meet user needs. For example, the addition of external sensors permits action triggered sampling based on a simple threshold mechanism, advanced time domain, frequency domain, or statistical techniques.

A fully interactive deployment option is also available. Sampling is triggered by a remote user dynamically interpreting and responding to the changing conditions at the site.
