Compass/Tilt Sensor
for use with McLane Sediment Traps
Description
The Compass/Tilt Sensor is installed inside the pressure housing of the sediment trap to ensure reliable long term operation. The sensor provides a time history of both the magnitude and the direction of tilt. Tilt magnitude is displayed and recorded in degrees from the vertical. Tilt direction, the heading toward which the top of the trap is tipped, is displayed and recorded in degrees measured clockwise from north: north = 0°, east = 90°, south = 180°, and west = 270°.
The tilt sampling rate is controlled by software and is limited by the available system memory and battery power needed for the deployment duration scheduled by the user. Existing sediment trap systems without tilt sensors can be upgraded by McLane personnel.
