The Mark 78HW-13 was designed to accurately measure large particle fluxes in extremely high productive environments. The Mark 78HW-13 hydrodynamic profile is identical to the Mark 78H-21; however, the cone opening at the bottom is three times larger.

There are thirteen 500 ml sample bottles on the Mark 78HW-13 instead of twenty-one 250 ml bottles on the Mark 78H-21. For smooth downward transport of particles, all McLane sediment trap interior cone walls are coated with natural polyethylene and slope evenly at a 41 included angle. Operation of the Mark 78H-13 is the same as the Mark 78H-21 and both are protected by a rugged titanium frame.
