  • November 2, 2001 - MMP News
Congratulations to Mr. Hirofumi Yamamoto of JAMSTEC. Mr. Yamamoto received the very first production model MMP. He deployed that system on May 22, 2001 and recovered it in October 2001. The profiler was programmed to conduct up/down profile pairs every 6 hours between 500 meters and 1500 meters depth. The MMP completed 1008 profiles before shutting down gracefully with an exhausted battery pack on September 26, 2001 to await recovery. That's 1 million meters of travel over 4 months. Congratulations to Mr. Hirofumi Yamamoto and JAMSTEC on a successful deployment!

  • June 2001 - Electronics Upgrade
McLANE Research Labs has completed the design of new electronics boards for ALL of our systems. All systems are now shipping with the new boards. We undertook the change to upgrade the capabilities of our systems, to correct known problems (see below), and to take advantage of the new, more reliable bus connector of the Tattletale 8 Version 2 (TT8-V2), a product of Onset Computer, Pocassett, MA, USA. Contact us for more information about the changes.

  • October 2001 - MMP Deployments
More than a dozen production units of the McLane Moored Profiler (MMP) have shipped. More than half of those are currently deployed in (or have already been recovered from) the Atlantic, Carribbean, North Pacific, and Arctic Oceans. A dozen more McLane Profilers are on order and in production. A fluorometer equipped system, the first profiler with an extended instrument suite (the CTD and current meter are standard), will ship this month.

  • October 2001 - McLane Conference Papers
Five papers describing McLane instruments, including three about the Moored Profiler, have been published and are available for download. The three papers from OCEANS 2000 provide overviews, with illustrations, of the instruments and their capabilities. The Oceanology paper provides a detailed description of the Moored Profiler design, though the system has matured since that paper was written. The OCEANS 2001 paper describes the results of a short but highly successful deployment on the south flank of the Hawaiian Ridge during January of 2001. Engineering and sensor data are presented.

  • Summer 2001 - Sediment Trap Upgrade
We have upgraded TT8 based sediment trap software to include features that have been standard on our other systems for the past several years. The most important feature is non-volatile data storage. A free, field installable software upgrade is all that is required to add this capability to existing systems. Contact us for more information and to receive upgrades suitable for your existing, TT8 based, McLane sediment traps.
