The Moored Profiler Goes to London

The Science Museum, London exhibition - Climate Change: The burning issue - opened on March 19, 2002 with UK Environment Minister Michael Meacher officiating.

Featured in the exhibit hall is a McLane Moored Profiler, on loan from the McLane Research Laboratories, Inc. The profiler includes a full instrument suite, a CTD and an acoustic current meter, provided courtesy of Falmouth Scientific, Inc. Elsewhere in the exhibit visitors will find the UK's first commercially available car powered solely by LPG, a model of a hydrogen-powered fuel cell car, the latest technology for turning your home into a 'green' power station, and a model of the Envisat Earth-observation satellite, launched on March 1.

The exhibition will run through the end of September, 2002. Throughout the run the Science Museum will host interactive sessions with scientists studying climate change. Participants in these programs will include investigators from the Southampton Oceanography Centre where two McLane Moored Profilers are used in several active research programs.

The initial contact for the loan of a McLane Moored Profiler to the Science Museum was provided through Dr. Stuart Cunningham of the Southampton Oceanography Centre, Southampton, UK. Dr. Cunningham was among the first users of the MMP (and is a "graduate" of our MMP training course). Since being contacted we have worked enjoyably with Dr. Helen Peavitt, Assistant Curator for Environmental Science at the Science Museum. Our thanks to you both. It's been a pleasure working with you. MRL is delighted and honored to have our profiler included in this important exhibition.
